Installation and performance
Huis zonder Fundament
During a conversation with the divorce lawyer, my mother tried to take the edge of my opinion, that we had never been a team, by saying that we always had a pleasant time. She argued this by saying that we always had many friends coming over to our house. My answer: “Ofcourse it was pleasant, but it was a stay of execution. It was a way to not facing up to the reality.”
Truth is a taboo and keeping secrets a virtue, for the family in this house. Parents make their marital problems invisible, both for their children and for each other. Based on my own story, I built an installation that projects a ‘house without a foundation’ and I delivered a performance to give an insight into my experience of such a house.
This artwork was my bachelor’s degree graduation project.
